Mamuka Mdinaradze, one of the leaders of the Georgian Dream, calls on U.S. Ambassador Kelly Degnan to make her statements on the issue of deoligarchization clearer.
Ambassador Degnan said with regard to the deoligarchization law that "direct adoption and transfer of other people's practices without adapting them to local conditions will not work."
According to Mdinaradze, if there is no explanation for these statements, the impression remains that the "message" of Degnani corresponds to the pathos of the opposition.
"We want to urge the representative of our strategic partner and friendly country in this country to be clear in her statements, for example, on the issue of deoligarchization. Yesterday Khatia Dekanoidze came out and said that the law must be adapted to Bidzina Ivanishvili and today Kelly Degnan comes out and says that it must be specific for Georgia. This law is made. If there is no more clarity and if there is no more information, many people in this country and even outside of it will have the impression that the message of the opposition coincides with the pathos of the representative of our partner and friend country, Ambassador.
Based on the fact that it fits the Georgian reality and specifics, at the same time, if it means that it fits a specific person whom they want it to fit, which is Bidzina Ivanishvili, it means that we are putting the principles of law and principles of democracy aside and in some authoritarian countries it may happen, or even worse, it may happen that the law directly applies to a specific person. It contradicts to the principles of law and that is why more clarifications and explanations are needed as to what is behind this statement," Mamuka Mdivaradze said.
