According to Justice Minister Rati Bregadze, if there is an official request to transfer Mikheil Saakashvili, Georgia's third president, there are grounds for refusal. He spoke on the matter on air of Imedi TV and noted that if someone wants to extend Mikheil Saakashvili's term for medical treatment, he must apply to the court.
"There is a possibility of refusal, as stipulated by international treaties and Georgian legislation, in case there are criminal proceedings against a person when this type of request is received. As we know, Saakashvili is convicted in 2 cases, and there are trials in the remaining 3 cases. Therefore, theoretically, if we assume that an official request is received, this is a ground for refusal," Bregadze said.
