For the purpose of institutional strengthening of anti-corruption activities, the ruling party is initiating a package of legislative changes, which envisages the creation of an anti-corruption bureau.
The main task of the bureau will be to promote the fight against corruption. Anri Okhanashvili, the chairman of the legal committee, made a statement about this in the parliament:
"In accordance with the 12-point plan of the European Commission, in order to fulfill the fourth point of this plan, today the ruling party initiates a package of legislative changes for the institutional strengthening of anti-corruption activities.
As you know, a working group was created by the Legal Affairs Committee, within the framework of which the mentioned package of changes was developed. The working group conducted its activities transparently with the involvement of representatives of state institutions and civil society and as a result of listening and analyzing all relevant opinions, the following types of legislative changes are presented: A legal entity under public law - the Anti-Corruption Bureau, whose main task will be to promote the fight against corruption, will be created.
The anti-corruption bureau will supervise the implementation of the document defining the general policy of the fight against corruption and the national anti-corruption strategy of Georgia.
For this purpose, the mentioned bureau will also coordinate the activities of appropriate bodies, organizations and officials.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau will be accountable to the Parliament of Georgia and the Interagency Anti-Corruption Council. In particular, the head of the bureau submits an annual report to the Parliament of Georgia, and periodic reports to the Interagency Anti-Corruption Council.
Regarding the appointment of the head of the anti-corruption bureau, the following rule is proposed: candidates for the head of the anti-corruption bureau will be selected on the basis of an open competition, following transparent procedures, by the competitive commission created with the participation of state agencies and civil society representatives and submitted to the Prime Minister of Georgia for appointment to the position, and the Prime Minister of Georgia will select and appoint the candidates to the position. will appoint the head of the anti-corruption bureau" he said
