Nika Melia, leader of the UNM, appeals to the Georgian president to pardon Nika Gvaramia. Melia said at a briefing at the party office that today's decision of the appeals court cannot help Georgia on the way to European integration and fulfill 12 recommendations of the European Commission.
According to Melia, it is an anti-legal and anti-European decision that deliberately hinders Georgia's European path:
"Today's court decision, in fact, the execution of the oligarch's will, clearly and distinctly tells Europe that it does not consider their recommendation and the will of the vast majority of Georgians to become members of the European family. Against this background, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili declares her European aspirations both inside and outside the country. Outside the country. Talks about European integration and less polarization, civil concord. Yes, civil accord and ending political polarization is the will of the vast majority of citizens, but the population is not polarized, on the contrary, it is united by European aspirations, but civil accord cannot happen in the presence of political prisoners, just as European integration cannot happen in parallel to free media captivity. That is why I turn to Mrs. Salome Zurabishvili, if her words are not false, if she really wants de-polarization and real implementation of civil accord process, to take the only right step. To use her constitutionally granted right and free Nika Gvaramia." - said Nika Melia
