For the 2020 parliamentary elections, the social network "Facebook" demands the transparency of political advertising in Georgia. The non-governmental organization "Fair Elections" received a reply from Facebook, stating that starting from August political and election advertisements in Georgia will require the authorization of the social network which will ensure transparency, quality, and authenticity. Voters will be able to find out who is trying to influence their vote in the election and why.
According to Mikheil Benidze, this letter confirms that "Facebook" will take seriously the 2020 elections in Georgia and before that will give relevant instructions to political actors, the implementation of which will be the responsibility of each entity.
Recall that a few months ago Facebook deleted 511 Facebook pages, 101 profiles, 112 groups, and 55 Instagram accounts due to unauthorized actions.
The general cleansing carried out by the administration of the social network touched upon the personal page of Koka Kandiashvili, the chief PR-technologist of the Georgian Dream, and the network of trolls connected with him. The Kremlin's worldwide network of media outlets has also been shut down.
