Georgia remains committed to a peaceful settlement of the Russian-Georgian conflict, Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili said during his speech at the OSCE Ministerial.

According to Darchiashvili, this task includes the de-occupation of Georgian territories by Russia and prioritizes reconciliation and restoration of trust between "artificially divided societies."

"Colleagues, we have repeatedly at various times stated that Georgia remains committed to a peaceful resolution of the Russian-Georgian conflict. On the one hand, this task includes de-occupation of Georgian territories by Russia, and on the other hand, it gives priority to reconciliation and restoration of trust between artificially divided societies The Geneva International Discussions Forum is the only format to ensure full implementation of the ceasefire agreement signed by Russia on August 12, 2008, and progress on the return of refugees, internally displaced persons.

We thank the OSCE Secretary General and the OSCE Chairmanship for participating in the international discussions in Geneva with the Co-Chairs. Decisive steps and a strong unity of the international community are needed if Russia is to fulfil its international commitments, including the EU-brokered ceasefire agreement of 12 August 2008, and to compel Russia to respect the fundamental principles of international law and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its neighbors," says Darchiashvili.
