The fact that some did not arrive from Ukraine and what arrived was expired is a corrupt deal between the then authorities - Mikanadze on the Buk systems

"Georgian Dream" MP Givi Mikanadze links the transfer of the "Buk" system from Ukraine to Georgia in 2008 with a "corrupt deal".

According to him, Georgia paid for the systems sent in 2008, but some parts did not arrive at all, and some were "unusable".

"In a simple context, this is some kind of corrupt deal between the then government and the Ukrainian government at the time, in relation to the fact that some part did not arrive and the amount that was paid was part of it paid in expired weapons. It will be difficult for me to say anything specifically, but the fact is that we bought from Ukraine and we did not receive it as a gift. The fact that the part did not arrive and the part that did arrive was expired, this is a direct criminal act. What is it called, the money has been paid and the weaponry does not arrive, or what arrives is unsuitable and there is no response to it, this is a direct criminal act," - said Givi Mikanadze.

For information, the temporary representative of foreign affairs of Ukraine, speaking to the Ukrainian media, said that Ukraine asked Georgia to return the "Buk" complexes handed over during the 2008 war. The Ministry of Defense of Georgia responded to Andrey Kasyanov's statement the next day and said that the information that Ukraine gave "Buk" systems to Georgia for free is not true. The Ministry wrote that the Defense Agency received the "Buk" system in 2007 with the mentioned multi-million dollar purchase.
