We will remember the Georgian government's refusal, but it will not affect the friendship of the nations - former Minister of Defense of Ukraine on "Buks"

Published:

The former head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry recalls the events of the August 2008 war and says in an interview with the "Mtavari Channel" that now it is unfair for the neighbor state to turn its back on the Georgian side.

According to him, there was no corrupt deal between the then governments and it is impossible to talk about it.

"The statements that the "Buk" anti-aircraft missile system sent by us does not work are funny and a bit strange. With this system, Georgians have destroyed a number of Russian planes. As for the alleged corrupt deal, it is unbelievable, there was nothing like it. Georgia was in trouble and we stood by it. In 2008, we knew that Russia would not stop in Georgia, and we were also threatened by this threat. In the same year, we conducted large-scale military exercises in Crimea. The accusations of the Georgian government are incomprehensible and unacceptable. What does it mean that we did not send everything?! Our aid worked effectively. Ukraine and the Ukrainian nation will remember the refusal of the Georgian government, but it will not affect the friendship and relations between the Georgian and Ukrainian nations," he says.
