According to Sergei Garilov, a communist deputy of the Russian State Duma, in addition to resuming air flights, it is important for Russia to restore full diplomatic relations with Georgia.
"If we take into account Georgia's independent position in relation to the problem of Ukraine and its position in relation to the sanctions imposed against Russia, it is necessary to restore not only air traffic, but also full-fledged diplomatic relations between our countries," Gavrilov said in an interview to the Russian media.
He says that the re-opening of the embassy and consular services in Georgia will contribute to the deepening of the relations between the two countries and will also help Russia to provide assistance to its citizens arriving in Georgia in case of need.
According to him, the renewal of relations will strengthen trade and tourism between the countries.
Before that, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, also called for the restoration of relations with Georgia. Lavrov expressed hope that "direct flights with Georgia will be restored soon".
