The "People's Power" movement, known for its anti-Western rhetoric, publishes another statement and criticizes USAID, in particular its rule of law project - "Prologue". MPs claim that "Prologue" started "attacking the judicial system" after 2015.
According to them, "the main patrons of the Saakashvili-Adeishvili court do not like the healthy" judicial system, the reason for which is political interest.
"Today, Prologue is demanding unprecedented changes in the legislation, the sole purpose of which is to return the influence of the National Movement on the judicial system. The main among the proposed changes is the so-called qualified majority rule, which gives the radical opposition the right to veto court-related personnel decisions. [...]
Essentially, it is through "Prologue" that the embassy is trying to gain influence on the Georgian judicial system, one of the mechanisms of which is the permanent encouragement of judges related to the national movement through American trips and similar events. Among such judges are, for example, Nino Bakakuri and Mamuka Tsiklauri, one of whom stands out for gross indiscipline, and the other for scandalous decisions," the statement reads.
According to the MPs, with the financing of "Prologue" "public relations campaigns discrediting the court" are carried out and "the judicial system is being branded as a so-called clan using Soviet propaganda methods".
"Prologue's undisguised attempt to infiltrate the judicial system and restore the political influence of the embassy and the national movement on it should be properly evaluated by the society and the government should take appropriate measures against it," says "People's Power".
