Tiny Kox was elected as the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for the second term. Oleksandr Merezhko, a representative of Ukraine, a member of the "Servant of the People" party, also ran for this position, but the Georgian delegation supported Tiny Cox.
According to the explanation of "Georgian Dream" chairman Irakli Kobakhidze, Merezhko was not supported because he was involved in the adoption of the resolution by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Pace, in which Mikheil Saakashvili is mentioned as a political prisoner.
According to an international journalistic investigation, Tiny Kox was a carrier of the Kremlin's interests for several years and was lobbied by Russia's main intelligence service for his election to the post of the head of the assembly.
"Personally, it is less important to me who Georgian Dream voted for in the elections of the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The most important thing for me is their position. So far, they have not made a decision to provide us with military assistance. Estonia is helping us with all its military equipment. The government of Georgia has not sent us a single weapon. Tiny Kox was one of those who helped Russia return to the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly. However, we must admit that after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, he changed his position and supported Ukraine, as well as actively participated in the expulsion of Russia from the Council of Europe. The most important thing for us is the fact that on February 24, Tiny Kox took the right position, but not the government of Georgia," Oleksi Goncharenko said.
