Georgian Dream Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze responded yesterday to the dispersal of a peaceful protest in front of Parliament and accused the "radical opposition" and the "media" of convincing the public that "American law" is Russian.
Kobakhidze thanked law enforcers "for their patience yesterday and for acting in accordance with the highest standards of human rights" and expressed "heartache" over the wounded peaceful protesters.
"The radical opposition and its media persuaded much of the public that the American law passed by Parliament was Russian, which caused genuine agitation among the people yesterday. However, as always, the radical opposition tried to use this excitement to achieve their own political goals and objectives. On the part of supporters of the radical opposition there was unprecedented violence against law enforcers, if before 2012 law enforcers used violence against protesters and public defender on the order of the National Movement, yesterday on the order of the same "National Movement", protesters used violence against law enforcers.
He said that it was important that anyone who had grossly violated the law and committed violence yesterday should be severely punished.
