According to the Special Investigative Service, there were 22 reports of possible excessive use of force by law enforcement officers against citizens at the rally in the Parliament area and on Rustaveli Avenue. The Special Investigation Service received 22 reports from citizens, journalists, non-governmental organizations and the Office of the Public Defender regarding possible use of excessive force and damage inflicted by law enforcement officers at the protest rally held in the vicinity of the Parliament of Georgia and on Rustaveli Avenue. The Special Investigation Service launched an investigation under Article 333, Part 3, Paragraph "B" of the Criminal Code of Georgia into the fact of possible exceeding official powers using violence by law enforcement officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs against the participants of the rally.
The Service is providing legal response to each of the reports received as well as is reviewing individual cases of possible excessive use of force during arrest of protesters shown in the video materials broadcasted by media outlets. Appropriate investigative and procedural actions are being conducted and planned as part of the ongoing investigation. The Special Investigation Service is taking all necessary measures to ensure an objective investigation.
