According to the Minister of Justice Thea Tsulukiani, the opposition continues to fight against its own country and people when it tries to prevent Georgia from receiving support from the United States.
"If we take just yesterday's phone conversation between these two persons, against the backdrop of this one contact and its content, of course, the opposition's assumptions and statements that the United States is turning its back on Georgia and the Georgian people and that there is a crack in this friendship and partnership are even more ridiculous," said Thea Tsulukiani.
The phone conversation between Mike Pompeo and Giorgi Gakharia took place on July 27.
The government said the sides discussed the common challenges of the global pandemic and the dynamics of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
During the phone conversation, Giorgi Gakharia mentioned in a telephone conversation that he would gladly host an official visit of the US Secretary of State to Georgia at any convenient time for him.
The Prime Minister and the US Secretary of State also discussed the security situation in the region, the Euro-Atlantic integration, deepening of cooperation in the occupied territories, and the economy. During the phone conversation, the attention was also paid to the upcoming parliamentary elections and the ongoing electoral reforms. The Head of the Government noted that the recently adopted constitutional amendments would increase political pluralism in the Georgian Parliament and contribute to positive changes in the political life and democratic process in Georgia, the government statement reads.
Commenting on the subject, Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani also said that the conversation was "...another clear confirmation" that we have multifaceted relations and partnership with our strategic partner, and that partnership is deepening day by day.
Following the phone call, MIke Pompeo twitted: "I spoke to Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia about the importance of holding free, fair and transparent elections".
