Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has stated that awarding Mikhail Saakashvili with the democracy award in Norway is a mockery of the Georgian people. Speaking about this Garibashvili compared Mikheil Saakashvili to terrorist Andres Breivik and said that giving this award to Mikheil Saakashvili "is almost the same as giving this award to Anders Breivik.
"What a mockery and an insult to our people that an authoritarian, almost dictatorial former ruler, the creator of a despotic, bloody system, has been awarded for some achievement in human rights... It is a mockery to our people, it is unimaginable. So it is a mockery of our people and of course it means nothing. Because this attitude from this organization in Norway, you remember in Norway that Breivik killed a lot of people. This is almost the same if any country would give award Breivik," Irakli Garibashvili said.
Breivik is a far-right extremist, who killed 77 people on the Norwegian island of Utøya in 2011. One citizen of Georgia was killed in a terrorist attack, which Anders Breivik carried out in Utøya. It should be recalled that Mikheil Saakashvili was awarded the Norwegian Democracy Prize.
