According to the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, the government of Georgia has shown neither diplomacy, nor wisdom, nor historical solidarity in relation to Ukraine. During her speech in the parliament, Zurabishvili said that the government is shying away from expressing political solidarity.
"In relation to Ukraine, we have shown neither diplomacy, nor intelligence, nor historical solidarity appropriate for us. Yes, we join the resolutions in the United Nations, but we avoid expressing all other moral and political solidarity . On February 25, in a completely inappropriate place, we announce that we will not join sanctions , when the opposite is true, and we can say that we cannot and will not impose our national sanctions, but we join the international ones - they did not ask for anything more, neither from us nor from Moldova. At the time when the whole of Europe considered it necessary to declare it, we took care of them and did not join the restrictions imposed by the European Union. At this time, the President of Belarus did not care of us, did not care of our territorial integrity, violated the law of occupation and betrayed the principle of non-recognition - shame on us! In the last two years, we have been noticeably careful not to irritate Russia, which is understandable, But it is not clear why we do not take care of our friends and partners with the same politeness and awe. As a result, today we have damaged diplomatic relations, first of all, with those European countries that were traditionally distinguished by supporting us. Through the rhetoric and actions of these last two years, you have erased and changed the course of your 9 years of governance and deviated from the will and mandate of your people and voters. As a result of all this, on June 17, 2022, Georgia did not receive the candidate status," Zurabishvili said.
