Judge Valerian Tsertsvadze responds to his sanction by the US and writes that he "categorically" disagrees with the charges. In his opinion, the decision was made by the State Department on the basis of false and unsubstantiated information. In his own opinion, "the above is aimed at gaining influence in court and discrediting it completely."
"I would like to state that I categorically disagree with the allegations made. I would like to point out that I have not been in the judiciary or any other public office for 6 years, so calling me a judge for lifetime is clearly a deliberate distortion of the facts, which directly indicates that it is completely false and the decision is based on unsubstantiated information. I would like to state unequivocally that there are no facts or evidence to support the allegations. I believe that statements made without any basis and in violation of the presumption of innocence are politically motivated. This is very sad, but I think it is aimed at gaining influence in court and discrediting it completely," Tsertsvadze wrote.
For the information, on 5 April, the US imposed sanctions on four Georgian judges, including Levan Murusidze and Mikhail Chinchaladze, and banned them from entering the US. The decision was taken by the State Department "due to their involvement in significant corruption activities". The restriction will also affect their family members.
