US tries to control Georgian judiciary, information is brought to public attention

The judicial clan came under sanctions - at the same time, the only one who was brought out today and commented in parliament on behalf of the 'Georgian Dream' was a member of the so-called 'People's Power' Guram Macharashvili.

Guram Macharashvili considers that the US sanctions against the 4 judges are an attempt of political interference in the judiciary.

"First of all I want to remind the public of the statements made by the People's Power, where we directly said that unfortunately there has been and still is an attempt by the US government to control the judiciary system of Georgia. A vivid example of this was, for example, summoning Judge Chkhikvadze to the Embassy and demanding him to explain why he took a specific decision in a criminal case. Certain information must definitely be given to the public and we will definitely do it dynamically," Macharashvili says.

For information, the United States has imposed sanctions against 4 Georgian judges, influential members of the judicial clan, including Murusidze and Chinchaladze, in connection with their corrupt activities and banned them from entering the United States. The sanctions should also apply to family members of the judges.
