"As a former Minister of Justice and a lawyer of the European Court of Human Rights, which means about 20 years of experience, I want to strongly, loudly and in principel condemn this decision of our friend, the USA" - declares Thea Tsulukiani regarding sanctioning of judges by the US State Department.
According to the Minister of Culture, partners and friends do not behave like this:
"It was unacceptable, especially since it had, as it turns out, the form of a surprise. Partners, friends probably don't behave like that, although it sometimes happens in friendship and partnership when there is some misunderstanding. This friendship and partnership have such great roots and tradition that this type of misunderstandings will not diminish it, however, of course, we, who represent the Georgian nation in power, are obliged to condemn what is an unacceptable act in the form of sanctions for the history, sovereignty and independence of our country . We insist on playing by the rules, especially when it comes to friends and partners. For example, we demand that the European Union treats us fairly, since the decision made by Brussels was unfair to the Georgian nation and not to any government. When they put Moldova and Ukraine in the front and told them to go, they did let Georgia take this the path on which Georgia is more successful than these two countries. Also, I consider the decision of the USA on sanctions inadmissible, since no evidence has been presented. This decision is incomprehensible in light of the fact that it was the West that was in favor of making these judges lifelong judges... I would like to remind everyone that together with my Georgian Dream political team, I was at the head of the first wave, the second wave, the third wave of justice reform and the introduction of the Juvenile Justice Code in Georgia, which together with the fourth wave, which was implemented by the Parliament of Georgia during the previous convocation, brought great leaps in justice for Georgia. To the extent that today we are in the best group of European countries, in advanced positions, not only in Europe, but also among NATO member countries, and our justice system is on the right path of development. It has great success in terms of impartiality and independence.
This process continues and to the Georgian people, when we are no longer in power, because when that day comes, we will leave not what Adeishvili left, who had this branch of government under his boot, but an independent and impartial court. Accordingly, I asked everyone, as an ordinary child of this country, to treat Georgia as it deserves. We are independent and hardworking people. Accordingly, we will stand together, always united as one fist, to protect our sovereignty, peace, independence and stability", said Thea Tsulukiani [First Channel]
