After the meeting with his Georgian counterpart Ilya Darchiashvili, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Zbigniew Rau stated directly at a briefing at the ministry that Poland is trying to find a constructive solution to the situation around Georgia's third president Mikheil Saakashvili.
According to Poland's chief diplomat, they have repeatedly discussed the issue with the Georgian side.
"My working visit today is a confirmation of the intense diplomatic-political communication between our countries and generally expresses the spirit that serves the further strengthening of our relations. This year, Minister Darchiashvili was the special guest at the meeting of the Council of Foreign Affairs of the European Union and we discussed with him the problematic areas of Georgia's European integration. We believe that common cooperation between Poland and Georgia will serve our national interests," Rau said.
As a reminder, Poland is a country that has repeatedly expressed concern about Mikheil Saakashvili's condition and has repeatedly expressed its willingness to transfer him to Poland for treatment, but the Georgian government has refused.
