One of the reasons for the start of the war was Ukraine's intention to become a member of NATO - Gharibashvili

Published:

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, says that one of the reasons for Russia's invasion of Ukraine was the country's intention to join NATO. He spoke on this topic at a thematic discussion held within the framework of the Global Security Forum (GLOBSEC) in Bratislava. The journalist asked Gharibashvili why Russia started a war with Ukraine in 2022, to which Gharibashvili initially did not answer and said that everyone knew the reason.

After repeated questioning, he named NATO expansion policy as one of the main reasons.

"I think everyone knows the reason, the audience also knows. One of the main reasons was NATO, the expansion of NATO, isn't that right? And many other reasons. I don't want to speculate about it, I don't want to quote the Russian government, but one of the reasons was the will and intention of Ukraine to become a member of NATO, and therefore we see the results," Irakli Gharibashvili answered the journalist's question.
