After the beginning of the war in Ukraine, 5635 citizens of Russia received Georgian citizenship

According to the administration of the President of Georgia, from 24 February 2022 to 18 June 2023 5635 citizens of Russia received Georgian citizenship. 3071 of them were Georgian citizens in the past.

According to the presidential administration, Salome Zourabishvili granted citizenship to 2,564 citizens of the Russian Federation as an exception. 2530 of them are from Georgia, 23 - are family members of Georgian citizens, 11 - are successful people in sports, science or art who want to represent Georgia.

During the same period, Georgian citizenship was granted to 5 persons under the ordinary procedure, 15 persons under the simplified procedure and 8 persons under the special procedure.
