Western countries are putting pressure on Georgia - Russian Foreign Ministry

According to Denis Gonchar, the Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Fourth CIS Department, Western countries are putting pressure on Georgia.

"Western countries are clearly putting pressure on Tbilisi, despite the fact that neither air transport nor other components of Russia-Georgia trade and economic relations violate the existing sanctions regime", - Gonchar says.

According to him, Russia considers any attemt to enforce "legitimate" sanctions imposed on it extraterritorially to be intervention in the international affairs of sovereign governments.

According to him, the Russian leadership decided to restore direct flights to Gerogia and to implement a visa-free regime for Georgian citizens "based on the need to promote conracts berween the Georgian and Russian peoples, humanitarian and economic ties between Moscow and Tbilisi" and that Moscow will continue to be guided by these considerations.
