He will return when we deem it necessary- Zalkaliani about Ambassador from Ukraine

Published:

According to Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani, the fact that the Georgian ambassador to Ukraine had been in Georgia for consultations for three months did not jeopardize relations between the two countries. According to the minister, the ambassador will return when it is deemed necessary.

"It does not pose a threat. I have very close relations and communication with my colleague; I am in constant contact with him. Ukrainians know our position on this issue and he will definitely return when we consider it necessary," David Zalkaliani said.

Ambassador Teimuraz Sharadzenidze was called in for consultations on May 8, after the third president of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili was appointed the Head of the Reform Council in Ukraine.

The opposition calls David Zalkaliani's decision to keep the diplomat in Georgia anti-state. Opponents of the government say it is only in Russia's interests to spoil relations between strategic partners.
