Voter bribery, violence and obstruction of election campaigning - GYLA Interim Report

Published:

Bribery of voters, violence, tense pre-election environment and obstruction of pre-election campaigning. These violations were included in the interim report of the Young Lawyers Association for the period from June 1 to August 31.

According to the organization, some decisions taken by the ruling team to overcome the pandemic crisis, which were perceived as part of the election campaign and manipulation of the will of voters, were particularly problematic. GYLA also talks about the use of public resources by the Georgian Dream.

Recall that in recent days, Georgian Dream activists have carried out a number of attacks against opposition and media representatives. On September 16, ruling party activists attacked the journalist of "Mtavari Channel" and threatened to wound him with a cold weapon. The number of cases of violence is growing both in the capital and in regions where opposition parties are not allowed to hold election rallies - yesterday members of the Labor Party were threatened with wounding. The unrest on Dadiani Avenue began after party members protested against the removal of their election posters.

Another incident, also on September 16, was an attack on a United Opposition representative, Eduard Petrosyan, in Tsalka. Petrosyan accused the local authorities of physical violence.

Before that, members of Kakha Okriashvili's election headquarters were attacked in Dmanisi, and a video recording of the attack is available.

Despite these facts, majority leaders do not admit the escalation of violence in the run-up to the elections, stating that the situation is calm and that all political parties are campaigning peacefully.
