Civil activists vs Georgia - the lawsuit was registered in the European Court

Civil activists against Georgia - The complaint of Giga Makarashvili, Zuka Berdzenishvili and Irakli Kacharava has been registered in the European Court of Human Rights.

The case concerns the use of force during the dispersal of the ongoing rally in front of the Parliament on November 18, 2019, in Tbilisi.

The applicants allege that their right to a fair trial, assembly and demonstration was violated during their detention. The Court of Appeals refused to consider their claim.

The applicants are confident that their claim will be upheld, which means that changes will be made in the legislation. Civil activists said their arrest was illegal and the case was fabricated.

Recall that the protests on Rustaveli Avenue resumed on November 18 after the Georgian Dream and Bidzina Ivanishvili did not fulfill their promise and failed to adopt the bill on the proportional electoral system.

Peaceful protesters were dispersed by riot police using water cannons and force. 37 people were arrested. Both citizens and law enforcers were injured during the dispersal of the rally.
