The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia does not rule out that the new cartographic materials obtained on the delimitation-demarcation issue of the Georgian-Azerbaijani border will change the 2006-2007 agreement.

Zalkaliani made the statement at a press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan. According to Zalkaliani, Commission Meetings were delayed due to pandemic; however , the working process has not been suspended.

As you know, there were incidents in Davit Gareji last year. We  started actively working within the joint commission. The composition of the commission itself was also renewed. Due to the pandemic, the meetings of the commission were delayed, however, its work has not stopped. We have obtained new additional cartographic materials and provided them to Azerbaijan.Based on the analyses of  these materials, I do not rule out the need to revise the agreement reached in 2006-2007", - Zalkaliani said.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has arrived in Georgia on an official visit.

The situation in Davit Gareji became tense after Salome Zurabishvili arrived there in 2019 and spoke about the need to establish a state border with Azerbaijan.
Shortly after this announcement, the Azerbaijani side closed the access road to the monastery complex.
