The Communications Commission appointed a special manager at Caucasus Online on October 1. Mariam Sulaberidze, the head of Open Net, who is reportedly close to Bidzina Ivanishvili, has been appointed special manager.

 

In an official statement, the regulatory commission explains the decision to appoint a manager and writes that Sulaberidze was appointed to the company "in order to eliminate the violation of the law."

The controversial amendments to the Law on Electronic Communications were approved by the Parliament on July 17.

The bill was discussed against the background of noisy committee hearings. Neither the opposition nor the non-governmental sector supported the changes.

Opponents said Koba Bekauri wanted to legalize censorship with this change.
