Government appoints a special manager with unlimited power for "Caucasus Online"-regulatory commission keeps silence

Another international investor is filing a claim against Georgia. The government has appointed a special manager for Caucasus Online, one of the country's largest Internet providers. The manager has an unlimited power - she can appoint or dismiss directors of Caucasus Online, as well as  members of the supervisory board and company employees. The director of Caucasus Online says that the taken decision is a revenge, and the only goal is to weaken the successful company.

The National Communications Commission does not answer questions from the media. Kakhi Bekauri's office has only issued a statement that a temporary manager has been appointed on the grounds that the fining of the company failed to deliver results  and suspension of its operations would not be the best solution.

Only during this year, the company has been fined six times by the regulatory commission, the last fine of 270,000 GEL was issued in August. The regulatory commission gave Caucasus Online one month to change the deal, according to which  NEQSOL Holding would become the owner of 49% of the company shares. The deadline has expired.

Those who are well acquainted with telecommunications issues openly say that the appointment of a special manager by the regulator for the country's largest internet provider is not accidental. It is said that the state should not take tough measures against successful businesses. Experts fear that this will have a negative impact on investors and worsen the investment climate.

The notorious law, which was hastily approved only by the Georgian Dream, was used today to terrorize business, says the opposition.
