"Dream" wants the court run by a "clan" and does not follow the recommendations of the Venice Commission - Opposition

The Georgian parliament amended legislation on the process of selecting Supreme Court judges without taking into account the recommendations of the Venice Commission. According to the opposition, Ivanishvili deliberately obstructed all kinds of reforms in the country to serve his interests. At the same time, the opposition believes that Dream will attempt to bring the judicial system under the control of the so-called "clan".

We must reform the judicial system if we want to join the European Union. Ivanishvili doesn't want it and that's why we have to put an end to his regime on October 31," said Salome Samadashvili, a member of The United National Movement.

For its part, the ruling team states that the opinion of the Venice Commission is an ordinary recommendation, and "it is not worth dramatizing the situation".

"What's important is that the ratings of Georgia's courts are higher than those of many democratic European countries," First Deputy Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Giorgi Volsky said.

It should also be recalled that in recent weeks the opposition has suggested that the government would not wait for the Venice Commission.
