The founder of the "Mtavari Channel", Giorgi Rurua, has been attacked in prison. The incident is confirmed by Giorgi Rurua's lawyer, Dito Sadzaglishvili.
"We are convinced that this violence was organized by the authorities. So far he has been illegally deprived of his liberty, now they have started the physical violence. The argument in favor of it being organized by the authorities is the fact that he was attacked exactly one day after the elections," said Sadzaglishvili.
According to Dito Sadzaglishvili, Giorgi Rurua has no injuries that would require hospitalization.
The Penitentiary Service issued a statement regarding the attack on Giorgi Rurua, stating that he had been verbally and physically abused while a prisoner who attacked Rurua was sitting in an open cell because his toilet was being repaired.
“The Special Penitentiary Service states that on November 2, 2020, a convict of the N8 Penitentiary Institution, was taken out of his cell to see his lawyer.
At about 15:25, while in the wing E-6 of building 1 (where round-the-clock electronic visual surveillance is conducted), he was subjected to verbal and physical abuse by the accused PN, who at that time was in the duty room making a telephone call.
It should be noted that during this period, a toilet repair work was carried out in cell N76 (cell of the accused P.N.) nearby, due to which the cell door was open. While Giorgi Rurua was moving in this wing, an employee of the Legal Regime Department closed the door of the said cell and stopped there. When a physical confrontation took place between PN and Giorgi Rurua, the officer ran to rescue them, at which point PN's roommates came out of the cell: N.O., D.Dz., G.J. And G.C. and also verbally and physically abused Giorgi Rurua. The incident was eliminated by the staff of the penitentiary institution, however, as a result of the physical confrontation, Giorgi Rurua had hemorrhages in his face. He was immediately given first aid by the surgeon on duty at the facility.
The incident was immediately reported to the investigative body, and an investigation was launched. "Interrogation procedures are currently underway and the video footage of the incident has been archived in accordance with the law," is said in the statement of the Penitentiary Service.
Just a few minutes ago a status in the name of Giorgi Rurua was posted on his Facebook page - "Friends, courageously and calmly, forward to victory".
