Grigol Vashadze leaves the UNM - what  assessments followed  the decision of the party chairman

Published:

The United National Movement remains without a party chairman - Grigol Vashadze left the main opposition party via Facebook. Part of the party members said they knew about the decision, while for some  it came as a surprise.

"I do not agree with the tactics of the majority of the party leadership chosen without consulting the party members. The lack of the party strategy is even more unacceptable to me. It only contributes to the so-called Georgian Dream. I cannot tolerate the appearance of odious figures around and inside the party with whom we can never, I repeat, can never gain the trust of the electorate. The campaign of attacks and insults against the heads of diplomatic missions of our strategic allies cannot but cause deep indignation, it is not clear who launched it and for what purpose. It would cause the most damage to relations of Georgia with the U.S., EU and EU member states," Grigol Vashadze wrote.

Vashadze's statement has already sparked assessments in both the opposition and the ruling team. The National Movement says the situation is difficult, but everyone should remember that they are facing problems. Whether any other leader will leave the party, information on the matter has not been confirmed by any leader.

"We very much appreciate what Grigol Vashadze has done for the party over the last four years. He decided to join the United National Movement at a very difficult time. He has been a very successful candidate in all the elected positions, so I think it will be a loss for our party." Salome Samadashvili stated.

She underlined that everyone had the right to decide for themselves how to continue their political activity and life.

Khatia Dekanoidze, one of the leaders of the party, reacted to the incident by saying that she was concerned that the positions between the party chairman and the party could not be brought closer. She noted that she  would not elaborate on the details.

Another member, Roman Gotsiridze, noted that Vashadze brought a lot to the party and took nothing.

Let us remind you that Chairman of the United National Movement Grigol Vashadze announced that he was leaving the party and he was leaving all the positions. He said  it was hard to make this step, but he did not see any other way out. Vashadze says that there are facts with which he categorically cannot agree.
