State funding will be stopped for parties that refused their mandates - Kobakhidze

Irakli Kobakhidze said at a special briefing that according to the draft law initiated in the parliament, state funding will be stopped or suspended for one year for parties which "do not fully assume their parliamentary mandates or whose deputies are not present at meetings for unsubstantiated reasons.

According to Irakli Kobakhidze, the restrictions stipulated in the draft law will apply to parties that:

  • State funding will be stopped or  be suspended for one year for the  party whose members suspend their  parliamentary mandates
  • The same parties will not be able to enjoy free airtime for municipal and parliamentary elections.
  • The amendment to the Rules of Procedure provides for the abolition of remuneration for those Members of Parliament who do not attend any of the plenary sessions during the month.

According to one of the leaders of the ruling party, this bill is directed against "parliamentary sabotage". According to him, the bill was initiated in the parliament today.
