Elena Nijaradze was dismissed - the organization must explain the reasons today

Published:

Elena Nijaradze, the head of Fair Elections, has been fired. She refused to comment on the matter. The Board of Trustees, which suspended Nijaradze's powers, will explain the reasons at a briefing on 25 December.

The ruling party says that if the law enforcers have any question marks, an investigation should be launched into the matter. Shalva Papuashvili, a member of the Georgian Dream, urged ISFED to be transparent.

"The only thing we can be sure of is that they themselves said it was really a mistake, a flaw, so to speak. The next  step meant  that they should have investigate the things that caused this flaw, whether it was a mistake or a deliberate act, to investigate themselves, have they responded to that yet?" - Shalva Papuashvili said.

The opposition is also waiting for the explanation of the organization, which thinks that what is happening is a result of pressure from the "Georgian Dream".

"This is another very disturbing sign of the decay of democracy in our country, because we see purposeful pressure and threats from the government against ISFED. It looks like ISFED was either listened to or there was some pressure, because before they stated the fact of mistake this, the government started talking about it " - said Elene Khoshtaria, member of European Georgia.

Recall, Fair Elections was involved in the scandal after they said a month after the election that an internal audit found a flaw in an alternative counting algorithm and altered the parties' data during the election.

The adjusted Fair Elections result was close to the official CEC data.

It is reported that a few days before the analysis of the results, the leadership asked the organization to recount the precincts and correct the results, and a meeting was held.
