Parliament is no longer one-party - The Dream sends an information letter to its partners

Published:

"European Socialists - the First Opposition Party enters the Parliament" is the headline of a Georgian Dream newsletter sent to its partners. The letter is dated January 5, 2021 and in it the ruling party explains the creation of this party and its entry into parliament.

"Georgian Dream" writes in the letter that the Parliament is no longer single-party and representatives of the opposition party are already in the legislative body, they are about 4 members of the Alliance of Patriots, who have not given up their mandates.

"On 31 October 2021 parliamentary elections were held in Georgia in which the ruling party Georgian Dream won 90 seats. The opposition won a total of 60 seats. The political opposition, including the Alliance of Patriots which won four seats in the 10th Convocation of the Parliament did not recognize the election results and refused to enter the legislative body. Nevertheless, the party did not withdraw the list from the CEC, which meant that other members of the party could enter the parliament," the newsletter reads.

Georgian Dream writes that after the elections, the largest political parties-  the UNM, the  European Georgia, Girchi and the Patriots Alliance, split one after the other for two main reasons, according to the ruling team:

"The two main reasons were the disagreements within the parties, first, the lack of a pro-Western path in the opposition, and second, the boycott of democratic processes by refusing to enter the parliament.”

The ruling team thinks that the statements of the 4 new members clearly show that there is no place for pro-Russian forces in the parliament.

The opposition explains that the government's attempt to legitimize the parliament is unfounded, as 4 oppositionists will not be able to legitimize the legislature. In addition, the opposition says the government is deliberately delaying the procedure for suspending mandates for other parties.

We would like to remind you that the Parliament of Georgia voted on January 5 to replace the three members of the Patriots Alliance, Irma Inashvili, Giorgi Lomia and Gocha Tevdoradze. Frodon Injia left the party after entering parliament and said he was forming a new union, the "European Socialists".
