I would start with releasing opposition politicians because their arrest is inconsistent with liberal democracy- another appeal from the former Estonian president and longtime friend of Georgia in the face of a serious political crisis.
Former Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves openly said in the program "Guest of the Day" that if Georgia wanted to join the European Union and NATO, it had to follow certain rules.
"If Georgia doesn't take seriously what these countries say, what the president of the European Council and the U.S. Senate advise, they will draw their own conclusions and decide not to bother anymore, because Georgians don't want to join our group," Ilves said.
He said opposition politicians should be released from prison first:
"I still believe that Georgia is part of the West, but if Georgia doesn't want to act according to the rules that are in the West and prefers other rules, then it's up to you to face the truth. Because their arrest is not consistent with liberal democracy. So the first thing I would do is release the opposition politicians because their arrest is not consistent with liberal democracy. I don't want to interfere too much in your internal affairs, but if you don't listen to our advice, you can't be part of our world," Ilves said.
