Stop political persecution - Melashvili, Ilichova, Kobaladze and Khuskivadze appeal to US Embassy
Iveri Melashvili, Natalia Ilichova, accused in the so-called cartographers' case, as well as former prisoners Akaki Khuskivadze and Akaki Kobaladze are writing a letter to US President Joe Biden. They demand the release of Nika Melia and Giorgi Rurua.
Former political prisoners have already filed a letter at the embassy.
"Political persecution must stop in Georgia and we think that both Mr. Melia and Rurua are political refugees, just as we were. This is just a form so American side can try and force the Georgian government, we can force the government somehow. It hurts the country. Therefore, this harm must be prevented." -Said Iveri Melashvili.
According to Akaki Khuskivadze, "Gavrilov prisoners" are in prison because of Russia's order and the course that Georgia took years ago, the current government is turning it upside down.
"We appeal to President Biden to show how the leader of the democratic world can influence the democratic process in Georgia and those people who, without guilt, it is a shame that both political prisoners are detained because of Gavrilov," - said Akaki Kobaladze.
According to them, they hope that Nika Melia's trial will end tomorrow with his release and the government will not put the country in a deadlock from which the way out will be quite difficult.
