The defendant addressed the Tbilisi City Court, where the trial of United National Movement Chairman Nika Melia is now underway. Melia thanked all supporters, thanked the judge and Prosecutor Guluashvili and said they gave him motivation.
He said that the then Prime Minister, Giorgi Gakharia, had also given his consent to his arrest, otherwise it would not have happened, "his friends in the parliament" would not have lifted his immunity.
"If you do not summon Kobakhidze as a witness and do not question him, will it not damage your reputation at least? Will the truth be established in this case? This man admitted, Gakharia and I agreed that we should arrest Melia and at the last moment, Gakharia changed his mind, at the time when you still had not issued the final verdict.
Of course, at first both Gakharia and Kobakhidze had agreed on my arrest. And now, Mr. Gakharia tries to show as if he was against my arrest, if that was so, then his closest MP friends would not have lifted my immunity” – Nika Melia said.
