The court remanded Nika Melia, the Chairman of the “United National Movement”, in custody. This decision was recently made by Tbilisi City Court Judge Nino Chakhnashvili.
Tbilisi City Court sentenced Nika Melia to imprisonment on February 17 as a measure of restraint. The case was considered by Judge Nino Chakhnashvili. Opposition leaders gathered at the UNM office to defend Nika Melia.
Giorgi Gakharia resigned from the Prime Minister the next morning. He linked his resignation to Melia's case and said there was a "difference of opinion" in the team on the issue. After Gakharia's resignation, the Ministry of Internal Affairs postponed Melia's detention "temporarily".
After the appointment of Irakli Gharibashvili to replace Gakharia, the government of the "Dream" stormed the UNM office and arrested Nika Melia.
