Nika Melia, the Chairman of the United National Movement, has released a statement from prison. He responds to the decision of Judge Nino Chakhnashvili, according to which the court left him in custody.
It's clear whats going on.
If I was released from prison today, wouldn't Ivanishvili's aides publicly and with foreign partners acknowledge that their political opponent was released on the basis of a political decision?!
If they had done this, their propaganda, as if the judiciary was an independent branch of government, would no longer exist at the level of disinformation.
Also, at the initiative of the court, Ivanishvili's followers could not accept my release today as a political compromise. Consequently, they would not be able to tell the foreigners that they have conceded on Melia, and now the opposition had to give in.
So, in their viewpoint, they kept me trading for the next round of negotiations.
And so, any terms offered in exchange for my release in the negotiation process are absolutely unacceptable to me and, moreover, humiliating.
For example, a condition such as the initiation of an amnesty law on June 20, under which they want to release actual abusive police officers and high-ranking criminals in exchange for my release from prison, is an attempt by Ivanishvili and his representatives to trade my freedom!
Do they want my release ?! Just as the iron door was opened from the outside, just like that, let them open the same metal door from the inside of the prison without imposing any trade conditions!
The most important thing for me is a sense of duty to myself. And yes, I owe it to myself that in exchange for my illegal detention no unfair compromise will be made!
Ivanishvili's adjutants, get it into your stupid heads that I'm not in this fight just for the fight, I am fighting for a great cause compared to which everything else has long been devaluated for me and my imprisonment will not be given in at the expense of the trade!
Supporters and well-wishers I beseech you-be strong and vigorous, increase and intensify the dynamics of the struggle, support each other or, rather, rather all of us in our place , and it will already be mutual support.
There is no struggle without loss, and it seems that I will not be with you on May 15, but the faith of each of you must become firmer and more unwavering!Remember that unity must bring ultimate victory. The closer the unity of the opposition and the community, the more important the result will be. if we scatter or disperse, victory will be delayed even further in time.
See you, thank you - writes Nika Melia
