"We are disappointed" - US State Department on current events in Georgia

    "Voice Of America"  has obtained  a statement of the US State Department. After the telephone conversation between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the US Secretary of State, the publication publishes the comments of the State Department on the current events in the country.
    According to one of the senior spokespersons of the Department, the United States wants Georgia to succeed as a secure and developed democracy and to continue working for Euro-Atlantic integration.
    The department is disappointed and says the opposing parties are not putting the country’s interests above their own political agendas.


    "We are disappointed that neither side, the ruling party and the opposition, has yet expressed a desire to prioritize the interests of the Georgian people over their own political interests. The ruling party and the opposition must work to reach a compromise, although we have stated [our position that] that the ruling party has a special responsibility to reach a compromise. It is critical that parties act in a manner consistent with fundamental democratic norms that underpin the values of the European and Euro-Atlantic Communities." -The article says.
