Russia has deployed troops in Crimea that fought in the August 2008 war

Russia has moved units of the 58th Army into occupied Crimea, which also fought in the 2008 Russia-Georgia war. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, they will take part in the so-called "exercises". It is also known that from April 19 to October 2021, Russia closes part of the Black Sea for military and government ships of other countries and explains this decision with the planned military exercises.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine assesses this as a violation of the sovereign rights of the country.

"The 58th Combined Armed Forces took part in the Russian-Georgian war in South Ossetia in 2008. In 2014, units of this army took part in the Russian-Ukrainian war in eastern Ukraine," Ukrainian media reported.

According to the President of the country, Vladimir Zelensky, the Security and Defense Council of the country discussed the current developments in eastern Ukraine. The President of Ukraine says that the army is ready to fight.
