Archil Talakvadze resigns as Speaker of Parliament

Archil Talakvadze has resigned as Speaker of Parliament. He made the announcement after the majority session.

"I believe that for the proper conduct of the further political process in the parliament, it would be correct to resign as the Speaker and appoint a person who will lead the parliament from a more neutral position. Accordingly, we have decided to carry out the rotation. Now, when we have a representative opposition in the parliament, I think that my place is in the hall, next to my colleagues and not in the position of a speaker," Talakvadze said.

He thanked the team and said he was honored to serve in the 9th and 10th Convocation of the Parliament.

Talakvadze will hold the position of Vice-Speaker:

"Archil Talakvadze, as one of the leaders of the team, including one of the leaders of the parliamentary team, will continue his active political activity as a Vice-Speaker," Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chairman of the Georgian Dream party, said at the briefing.
