We may reconsider our strategy on the amnesty bill – Vashadze

Published:

Today the opposition will register its version of the June 20 amnesty bill in parliament  by the end of the day. According to Giorgi Vashadze, the leader of "Strategy Aghmashenebeli", today, April 28, the opposition will have another working meeting on this topic and will review the strategy.

"The biggest difference in the amnesty laws was the consent of the victim. Yesterday, in talking with lawyers, it became clear that the more policemen are acknowledged as victims in these cases than people who have lost their eyes, you can imagine the  manipulation we are dealing with. And generally, none of the people who lost their eyesight are known to be victims in the investigation. Consequently, we will have another meeting with the opposition today and we may revise our strategy regarding the amnesty law.
We really do not want to introduce a bill that would allow another manipulation of the Georgian Dream, that, for example, a policeman does not give consent to Nika Melia, for example, and what should I do? Does not give consent to Beso Tamliani and what do I do?! Therefore, we have work to do on it," said Giorgi Vashadze.

As for the opposition that did not enter the parliament, Zaal Udumashvili, a member of the United National Movement, says that the Georgian Dream is trying to kill two birds with one stone- pass their bill and discredit the opposition as much as possible.

"A complete boycott should probably be announced if the Georgian Dream decides to pass its bill," he said.

Georgian Dream states that the amnesty bill should affect everyone.
