Suspend The Judge Appointment Procedure - Venice Commission publishes 3 recommendations

The Venice Commission welcomes the amendments to the Organic Law on Common Courts, which take into account the previous recommendations of the Venice Commission. A new report by the Venice Commission says that despite the changes, there are some recommendations that need to be taken into account.

In particular, the Venice Commission makes the following recommendations:

Consider changing the composition of the High Council of Justice to make further decisions;
Suspend the appointment procedure until the Supreme Court Chamber makes a decision;
The procedure may need to be updated to ensure equal treatment of candidates.

"The Venice Commission remains at the disposal of the Georgian authorities for further assistance on these issues," the statement said.

The submission of the conclusion is requested by the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia on April 8, 2021.
