The head of the State Security Service, Grigol Liluashvili, presented a report on his activities in the legislature today. The session is now closed, although in earlier statements Liluashvili criticized the critical media and the civil sector.
He cited Russian occupation, disinformation and illegal arrests by Russian occupiers as challenges.
According to Liluashvili, in 2020, the occupation forces arrested 64 Georgian citizens in Tskhinvali, "although this does not fully reflect the number that actually happened."
According to him, the main challenge is the release of Zaza Gakheladze and Irakli Bebua, who are in illegal captivity of the Tskhinvali occupation forces.
Grigol Liluashvili criticized the civil activists for their protest near the occupation line while presenting the report.
"The Ministry of Internal Affairs is creating a security buffer to prevent various excesses and provocations caused by our own citizens through their own irrational or deliberate actions. Activists who unknowingly often increase our risks in the area around the dividing line" Liluashvili said.
According to him, the media with a "huge reputation" and representatives of the third sector are spreading misinformation and trying to discredit law enforcement agencies.
"The information-damaging campaign against our service and the law enforcement agencies in general, which they actively served, was very much represented by the mass media. There was a lot of information that clearly served to discredit the law enforcement agencies. "On the side of the forces that want the country, but also on the side of the appellants' defense of the perpetrators.
