If Nika Melia should be granted amnesty, why not lighter articles?! - Gomelauri

Published:

According to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri, the amnesty bill of June 20 is fair and if it concerns the chairman of the "National Movement", Nika Melia, then it should also apply to the police officers accused of abuse of power.

"I, as the Minister of the Interior, should have opposed the amnesties, so to speak, but since a political decision was made, politicians from all over Europe were involved, several rounds of negotiations were held, so it was decided that we should accept this amnesty.
I do not think it is unfair to apply to the police, of course, not because I am the Minister of the Interior and therefore I protect the police. If we look at it this way, the most severe article is inflicted on Mr. Nika Melia. If Mr. Nika Melia should be affected by this amnesty, why should not it apply to  the lighter articles, I ask the question, it would be an injustice," Vakhtang Gomelauri said.

He says he believes the amnesty bill is fair.
