Continuation of encouraged crimes by Ivanishvili's regime - "European Georgia" about the attack in Gareja

Published:

"European Georgia" responds to the attack on Iveri Melashvili and the filming crew of the "Mtavari Channel" and writes that the incidents are a continuation of crimes encouraged and unpunished by the "Ivanishvili regime".

According to the party, the incident confirms that the government is not going to change the spirit and actions that have ruled the country so far.

"Yesterday, Iveri Melashvili and the filming crew of the “Mtavari Channel” were attacked near the Gareji Monastery. This is a natural continuation of the crimes encouraged and unpunished by the Ivanishvili regime and is part of them. This story, as well as the legislation tightened by the parliament against the activists, proves that the government is not going to change the spirit and methods with which it has ruled this country so far.
The arrest of Firuz Tsulukidze, Rezo Tsulukidze, and Irakli Chelidze by the obedient Georgian police and the court is an integral part of the same context. These people expressed solidarity with the protesters in the Rioni Valley. This was followed by provocation by the authorities and their arrest. These and similar cases expose the government's desire to continue to rule the country with the help of violence, political persecution, lies, and propaganda of hatred." the statement reads.

Yesterday, on May 4, the film crew of the “Mtavari Channel”, together with Iveri Melashvili, arrived in Davit Gareja to film a report for "Saturday's Mtavari", during which they were attacked first by drunken clerics and then by citizens. The investigation was launched only under Article 126 of the Georgian Criminal Code.
