"Aslan has fled, Adjara is free" - memories on the Adjara revolution

  17 years since the Adjara revolution - Amid large-scale public protests and rallies, Aslan Abashidze, the former commander of the Adjara Autonomy, was forced to resign and left Georgia on May 6.


   Abashidze, together with the Cabinet of Ministers, declared disobedience to the government that came with the Rose Revolution from the very beginning, but the events soon developed dramatically.
   Dams erected at the entrance to the region and closed "border" -Abashidze isolated Adjara and it was possible to    enter the region only after passing the passport control.
   However, after fierce protests from the people, he was forced to flee the country.
