Georgian authorities should take the attack on journalists seriously and thoroughly investigate the incident– CPJ

The American non-governmental organization "Committee to Protect Journalists" responds to the fact of the attack on Ninutsa Kekelia, a journalist of the "Mtavari Channel" and cameraman Irakli Kvaratskhelia.

A statement issued by the organization on its website said that the Georgian authorities should swiftly and thoroughly investigate the incident, find the perpetrators and ensure that the press can work freely  and safely.


"Georgian authorities should take seriously the attack on journalists Nino Kekelia and Irakli Kvaratskhelia, thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure that the perpetrators are found and held accountable” –said Gulnoza Said, CPJ Europe and Central Asia Program Coordinator.


The statement also mentioned the incident in Marneuli in September 2020 and said that the police on the spot did not protect the journalists.
